Our Programs

Resource Library & Advocacy Support

Staff of the LDASC are available to provide members and the general public with information on learning disabilities and finding resources.

Each office of the LDASC houses a resource library of books, audio tapes, and videos available for loan to our members.

We also provide advocacy support for parents attending I.P.R.C. and I.E.P. meetings for their children in the educational system.

In addition, we also hold quarterly meetings and occasional workshops with guest speakers for topics that directly impact individuals dealing with learning disabilities.

Computer Loan Program

The Computer Loan Program has been set up to lend computers to special education students who have been identified by the Simcoe County Board of Education (SCBE) or the Simcoe County Roman Catholic Separate School Board (SCRCSSB) as exceptional students in the area of communication (specific learning disability).

The computers are the property of The LDASC. The association will provide liability insurance and retain control over the usage and distribution of the machines. The LDASC will also determine what software will be offered. The association will also make every effort to provide technical support throughout the borrowing period. The borrowers will not modify or vandalize the hardware and software in any way.

Qualifying for the Program

The LDASC will, from time to time, establish criteria to determine which students will be allowed to borrow computers. Upon receiving a waiver to allow a student's name to be put forth for consideration (signed by the parents or guardians of the student), the LDASC computer committee will seek input and recommendations from the special education department of the school.

Criteria to be considered in recommending students may include:

  • Demonstrated need
  • Student's enthusiasm for learning and accepting responsibility
  • Parental request and enthusiasm for accepting responsibility
  • School attendance
The LDASC's computer committee will make the final determination of the recipients. A waiting list will be maintained and the committee will allocate equipment as machines become available.

Recipients will use the computers solely for school purposes; i.e. they will not be used for commercial purposes. The borrower and the parents/guardians will sign the association's Agreement Form.

Fee: $ 40.00 donation to the program.

Borrowing Period

Each student will be allowed to borrow the computers for one semester, or for a time period determined appropriate by the LDASC's Computer Committee. The student will return the computer if (s)he leaves the system of the SCBE or SCRCSSB. A member of the Computer Committee will contact the borrower during the period to ensure the computer is meeting the student's needs. Failure to maintain the recommendation criteria may result in a request to return the equipment. The borrower will make arrangements to return the computer to the LDASC office at the end of the borrowing period, unless the Computer Committee determines that the period should be extended.
