PART 1 - “Brainstorming
Session” LDASC strives to meet the needs of its members and those in
our community who have, know or live with someone who has a learning
disability.
We truly value your input and this is why we are inviting
you to come and share your ideas, knowledge and resources.
We want to improve the way we help people in their time of
need. Our core service is to
help people in crisis with information and support. We hope you will share your
experiences with us. We want
to spend some time looking at how we work and how we can improve. Some questions we can use to start
the conversation are:
Have you used our services before? If so were we able
to provide you with what you
needed? What gaps do you feel are missing from our
services? What information should we have
available? What could we do better?
This is a time for you to speak
out.
Let us know what you feel The Learning Disabilities
Association could do to improve our services for you and the
community.
REMEMBER --- No idea is a bad
idea!
PART 2 - “Assistive Technology Presentation”
“Unlock the door to the printed
word.”
Several studies have documented the effectiveness of
assistive technology in the development of reading and writing skills for
students with learning disabilities (LDs). Assistive technologies,
such as voice recognition software and text to voice software have proven
to improve the reading comprehension and writing level of students
throughout their school career and into the working
world.
Join Patti Schneider, Learning Disabilities Specialist and Director of The Schneider Centre for Learning disabilities to:
A) Learn
more about different assistive technologies for people with
LDs. B) Learn
what documentation is required and what steps to take to access Ministry
of Education funding for assistive technologies for students with learning
disabilities. C) Have
your questions about assistive technology for people with LDs
answered.
If you are unable to attend and wish to provide feedback,
suggestions, or recommendations, please feel free to contact the office to
discuss.
We truly value your input and we hope to see you at the
meeting on February 4th.
