WELCOME!

The staff and Board of Directors of the LDASC extend a warm welcome to you and thank you for your interest in joining our team. Your involvement with our organization will help strengthen our association and enable us to continue to maintain a high standard of community service and public awareness.

Policies and Procedures

A complete policy and procedure manual pertaining to Volunteer Services is available in our administrative office. You will have the opportunity to review this manual on the first day of your assignment. It will also be available for you to review again upon request.

Confidentiality

All information regarding our clients, their families, and the overall business of the organization must be kept in the strictest of confidence. A breach of confidentiality by a staff member or a volunteer may result in termination.

Attendance

As volunteers play such an important role within our agency, we ask that you be as dependable and punctual as possible. If you are unable to report for duty or are planning a vacation, please advise your supervisor or the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible so that alternate arrangements can be made.

Record of Hours

Please record your volunteer hours in the book provided in our administrative office. All hours contributed by volunteers are copiled and submitted on a monthly basis to our Board of Directors.

Problems/Concerns

Please bring any problems or concerns you have with regard to your assignment to the attention of your supervisor or the Volunteer Coordinator. Every effort will be made to remedy the situation in a timely fashion.

Volunteer Reviews

An assignment review will be conducted with each volunteer after an initial three-month period, and on a yearly basis thereafter. The purpose of this review is to assess your satisfaction with your assignment, to evaluate the program in general, and to identify and discuss any areas of concern.

Dress Code

Volunteers, like staff, are responsible for presenting a good image to clients and the community. Therefore, please dress appropriately for the condition and performance of your duties.

Scope of Duties

For the safety and well-being of our clients, staff, family members, and volunteers, it is important that you remember the following:

  • perform only the duties outlined in your position description;
  • all progress reports or concerns with regard to our clients are the sole responsibility of the staff members;
  • all contact with our clients is to be done on our premises and during the assigned times.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • To be sincere in the offer of service and believe in the value of the work to be done
  • Loyalty to the organization you work with
  • To maintain the dignity and integrity of the community service with the public
  • To carry out duties promptly and reliably
  • To accept the guidance and decisions of the Coordinator of Volunteers
  • To be willing to learn and participate in orientation, training programs, meetings and to continue to learn on the job
  • To understand the function of the paid staff, maintain smooth working relationships with them, and stay within the bounds of volunteer responsibility

Volunteer Rights

  • To be treated as a co-worker
  • To be given suitable assignments
  • To know as much as possible about the organization
  • To receive training on the job
  • To have regular evaluations of volunteer performance
  • To be given sound guidance and direction
  • To be given promotions and positive experiences
  • To be heard
  • To be recognized
